“What’s your favorite color?”
I remember being 4 years old, on my first day of pre-school, when I was sitting on the rug in my new classroom with my friend Kacie when we were going around the room introducing ourselves and saying our favorite color. Here’s was pink and mine was purple. I didn’t actually know why, but something about the color attracted my attention.
Most of us can quickly identify the color(s) we like the most and those that we like the least. As such a simple question of preference, you probably wouldn’t assume that there could be more to your answer than meets the eye- but what if I told you that there was? That it could reveal the answers to some of your most pressing philosophical questions?
Color contains so much information and insight into your psyche. In fact, color has been used to facilitate healing treatments and has been scientifically evaluated to be a legitimate way to disseminate medicinal treatment.
“Colors have a profound effect on us at all levels—physical, mental and emotional. If our energy levels are blocked or depleted, then our body cannot function properly, and this, in turn, can lead to a variety of problems at different levels.”
Colors also correspond to energy systems: chakras, electromagnetism, even psychological disorders. The stuff happening inside and outside of our bodies subconsciously draws us to seek out the energy that different colors provide.
Your favorite color is really your body’s way of telling you how you’re functioning, energetically. It’s often a source of comfort and familiarity that we find in our favorite colors because we are drawn to that which is strong within us. You can identify your strengths and weaknesses, just by looking at the colors you surround yourself with. Cool, right?
On the flip side, the colors that you don’t like, that automatically fill you with dread, say something about you as well. The colors you hate are the colors with energetic properties that you’re resisting. For example, if you hate the color red, that means you’re running away from stability, groundedness, and physical connection, as red is the color associated with the root chakra. Red is also the color of emotion, so you are probably constantly running away from facing your true self.

So, what does your favorite color tell you about yourself? What do you feel draws you to it, now knowing there’s more to it than meets the eye (literally)?
